The BIGMEKI™ from Mekitec is a high-capacity X-ray inspection system designed for large or oversized packaged products, including secondary packaging, trays, and multiple-item packs. Combining the trusted MIDMEKI platform with a substantially larger detection area, BIGMEKI™ delivers precise food safety inspection with AI-powered image processing to ensure reliable contaminant detection, traceability, and consistent product quality.

AI-Enhanced Detection for Large-Scale Products

Equipped with intelligent AI algorithms, BIGMEKI™ improves foreign object detection whilst reducing reliance on costly hardware upgrades. The system is capable of inspecting products with high moisture content, elevated salt levels, and a variety of packaging materials, including metal and aluminium, without compromising accuracy. This makes it a versatile, cost-effective solution for food producers handling large-scale items.

Flexible Configuration for Industrial Production

BIGMEKI™ is engineered for industrial production lines, offering flexible conveyor configurations to match operational requirements. Conveyor speeds range from 0.14 to 0.44 m/s with load capacities up to 60 kg. The inspection area accommodates products up to 695 mm in height and 600 mm in length (longer products can be accommodated with custom configurations), providing full coverage for large and oversized items.

Hygienic Construction and Regulatory Compliance

The system is constructed from brushed stainless steel and includes an EU and FDA-approved food-grade conveyor belt. BIGMEKI™ is compliant with the UK X-ray Supermarket Code of Practice, meeting the stringent requirements for food safety inspection systems supplying the UK retail sector. Optional cooling systems support stable operation in demanding environments.

Robust Performance in Industrial Environments

The system has an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance (IP34/IP54 for cooling and external circuit), ensuring reliable operation in real-world industrial conditions.

Safety and Standards Compliance

Operating with a 40–150 kV, 500 W X-ray generator, BIGMEKI™ maintains residual radiation below 1 µSv/h. Safety circuitry is certified to Category 3, Performance Level PL d.

User-Friendly Interface and Connectivity

Operators interact with the system through a 15-inch colour TFT LCD touchscreen, whilst USB and Ethernet connectivity allow integration with factory management and reporting systems.
