HyperPointer® Hyperspectral Vision Inspection System

HyperPointer® Hyperspectral Vision Inspection System

HyperPointer® is an in-line hyperspectral vision inspection system from TriVision designed for reliable seal quality control of non-transparent packaging including plastic and paperboard trays, pots, and containers. Using hyperspectral line scan cameras that capture data across an extended electromagnetic spectrum including infrared wavelengths, HyperPointer® detects seal contamination with far lower contrast than conventional RGB systems — inspecting through printed foil and non-transparent films where standard vision systems fall short. The system supports seal, label and artwork, print, and barcode inspection, runs on Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC with TriVision’s software, and connects via OPC UA and REST for full factory integration.

HyperPointer®: Hyperspectral Seal Inspection for Non-Transparent Packaging

The HyperPointer® from TriVision is an in-line vision inspection system that uses hyperspectral imaging (HSI) to deliver reliable quality control of non-transparent packaging. Designed for plastic and paperboard trays, pots, and containers, HyperPointer® performs thorough seal inspection where standard RGB vision systems are unable to achieve consistent, reliable results — regardless of packaging material, layout, or format size.

Where Standard Vision Systems Fall Short

Conventional vision systems capture images across three wavelength ranges (RGB), detecting only what the human eye can see. This creates significant limitations when inspecting non-transparent packaging films or when there is insufficient contrast between a contaminant and the film material. HyperPointer® addresses these limitations directly by capturing data across an expanded range of the electromagnetic spectrum, including infrared wavelengths, enabling detection of seal contamination with far lower contrast than conventional systems can resolve.

Hyperspectral Imaging: Pixel-Level Material Analysis

HyperPointer® uses hyperspectral line scan cameras that examine each pixel individually across a broad wavelength spectrum. This pixel-level analysis detects variations in material composition even when inspecting through printed foil — a capability that is fundamentally beyond the reach of standard camera technology. The result is more accurate, more reliable seal contamination detection across a wider range of packaging formats and film types.

Compact In-Line Construction

HyperPointer® is built in a stainless steel enclosure measuring 1,150 × 630 × 1,680 mm (L × W × H, excluding shield), with a 300 mm conveyor width handling products up to 100H × 280W × 280D mm. The conveyor level sits at 900 mm with ±50 mm adjustment to suit existing line heights. Seal, label and artwork, print, and barcode inspection are all supported within the same unit.

Industrial Computing and Open Connectivity

The built-in industrial PC runs Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC with TriVision’s vision software, presenting an intuitive operator interface on a 21.5-inch full HD multi-touch panel. OPC UA and REST communication protocols combined with Gigabit Ethernet and Digital I/O provide straightforward integration with MES platforms and factory data systems across all supported languages.

Reliable Inspection Beyond the Visible Spectrum

For manufacturers handling non-transparent or printed packaging where standard vision systems cannot guarantee consistent seal quality, HyperPointer® provides the detection capability needed to maintain product integrity, reduce false rejects, and meet the demands of regulated food and pharmaceutical production environments.
